KUALA LUMPUR — PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim denied rumours that his deputy, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, had quit the party.

The Port Dickson Member of Parliament said he did not hear or come across any information on such a claim.

“I did not hear anything about this. I only heard about it from the media, but as said before, it’s not true.

“He (Azmin) is not (leaving the party),” Mr Anwar said after attending the Malaysian Economic Symposium at Parliament House in Kuala Lumpur on Friday (July 26).

On Thursday, Mr Azmin’s political secretary Hilman Idham also denied the claim, stating such slander was created by those who had lost in the party polls.

Mr Hilman said Mr Azmin continues to enjoy strong support from PKR division chiefs, the women’s wings and party members.

Pressed further on the matter, the Port Dickson Member of Parliament reiterated his stand that he and Mr Azmin were still working as a team.

“We already said no (argument). Why do you want me to argue with him every day?” he asked.

Rumours of Mr Azmin leaving the Pakatan Harapan component party began swirling after speculation emerged that the Economic Affairs Minister had allegedly joined former Barisan Nasional component party Gerakan.

Meanwhile, Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau today claimed the multiracial party received overtures on the possibility of the Gombak Member of Parliament joining his party.

Dr Lau also claimed that “several” PKR leaders and other Pakatan Harapan component party leaders wanted to see Mr Azmin join Gerakan.

Speculation over Mr Azmin leaving PKR has been ongoing this week, especially after Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia opened its membership to non-Malays as associate members.

Certain segments claimed this move was to pave the way for Mr Azmin to leave the party and for his non-Malay supporters to join as associate members. MALAY MAIL
