KUALA LANGAT (Selangor) — It was double trouble for an Indian Muslim restaurant in Selangor when authorities not only discovered its kitchen was infested with cockroaches, but that it had served a patron fried chicken crawling with maggots.
In less than two hours after a 3pm raid on Monday (Jan 6), the restaurant in Telok Panglima Garang was ordered shut by the Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL) to avoid food poisoning and contamination.
According to MDKL assistant health officer Noor Hayati Ibrahim, the raid shocked more than a dozen customers who were having their tea break at the restaurant, which had been operating for two years.
MDKL president Mohamad Zain A. Hamid said the council does not hesitate in ordering the shuttering of unhygienic eateries.
“The restaurant was instructed to close for 14 days to make way for cleaning works.
“It was served with a compound, and the closure of the premises was conducted under the MDKL Food Establishment (2007) Bylaw,” he said.
The raiding team descended on the restaurant after a man posted a viral video of himself enjoying mee goreng with fried chicken at the eatery.
But his enjoyment was short-lived, as he suddenly discovered maggots wriggling on a piece of chicken.
In the video, one of the man’s friends alerts a restaurant worker to the situation, saying “How can you serve us with this?”
The employee responds by taking the dish away.
The 1.27-minute video, which was posted on the ‘My Kuala Langat’ Facebook page, has received more than 35,000 views. NEW STRAITS TIMES
